Airbus reduces aircraft part prototyping costs with Plain Concepts

The aerospace manufacturer Airbus faced a challenge in training new workers, as traditional training using physical workbenches and parts was expensive, suffered from wear and tear, and limited the number of new recruits. Plain Concepts developed a virtual reality-based application for the Oculus Rift to address this.

Plain Concepts created a Catia Viewer using Evergine technology, which allows operators to simulate work environments and naturally manipulate 3D aircraft parts in VR. This solution eliminated physical wear and tear on parts, reduced the cost and space required for training scenarios, and enabled remote or virtual training. The vendor also developed a custom loader to import high-precision CATIA and SolidWorks models, optimizing them for performance in virtual reality.
