Metal, the company behind Metal Pay, set out to make cryptocurrency accessible and trustworthy for everyday users by removing technical and financial barriers while protecting customers from fraud. To link users’ bank accounts quickly and securely, Metal chose Plaid for its account-linking technology and data network, citing superior speed, fraud prevention, and breadth of supported institutions.

Plaid enabled instant account linking (users enter bank credentials instead of microdeposits) and provided KYC and fraud-detection endpoints that Metal used to flag risky accounts. The result: Plaid linked accounts in about seven seconds, helped Metal scale sign-ups from roughly 100 to 1,000 per day during a referral push, supported Metal’s growth to 120,000 users and $10M+ in payments processed, and prevented more than 5,000 fraudulent sign-ups in one month—saving Metal over $75,000.
