How MoneyLion is building the financial marketplace of the future

MoneyLion, a consumer-facing financial ecosystem and operator of the Engine embedded marketplace (serving over 10 million users and 1,200 partners), set out to modernize lending by reducing checkout friction and bringing real‑time cash‑flow and open‑banking data into underwriting and product matching. To do this, MoneyLion partnered with Plaid and integrated Plaid technologies—including Plaid’s Layer linking flow and Plaid’s CRA consumer report—to give users transparent, secure ways to share bank and cash‑flow data.

Plaid implemented low‑friction, user‑permissioned account linking and cash‑flow reporting into MoneyLion’s marketplace, enabling consumers to opt in to data sharing (over 90% opt‑in in tested flows) and giving lenders better real‑time signals for targeting and underwriting. The integration helped MoneyLion streamline checkout, improve conversion and risk selection, and accelerate adoption of cash‑flow underwriting across its marketplace—demonstrating measurable uplift in user engagement and more precise customer acquisition powered by Plaid.
