Save BC Film engaged PlaceSpeak to obtain verifiable facts about the financial impact of British Columbia’s motion picture industry after long‑standing claims (about $1.2 billion per year and 25,000+ jobs) were disputed by the provincial government. Using the PlaceSpeak civic engagement platform, the group sought to collect input from residents and industry workers to inform government decision‑making.
PlaceSpeak enabled public discussions, targeted surveys, polls and event invitations, resulting in a verifiable dataset and active participant engagement: 537 connected participants, 3,198 unique views, 447 survey responses and 183 poll participants. PlaceSpeak’s tools (notifications, discussion threads and an events calendar for rallies/hall meetings) helped Save BC Film mobilize supporters and deliver evidence to provincial decision‑makers.
