News 1130 wanted a real-time, hyper-local read on voting intention during the 2015 federal election across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. To meet that challenge they partnered with PlaceSpeak, integrating PlaceSpeak’s iFrame polling widget and location-verification features into the NEWS 1130 website to collect authenticated, geographically segmented responses from voters.
PlaceSpeak’s solution—combined with a CartoDB map visualization and promotion via on-air coverage, social media and email—allowed respondents to be authenticated by location and segmented by riding, with results updating in real time. The campaign generated 2,775+ unique views, 570+ connected participants and 270+ discussion comments, and PlaceSpeak’s poll correctly predicted the winner in 11 of the 12 most-polled ridings (notably Delta and Vancouver Granville), accurately reflecting the late Liberal surge.
