A PlaceSpeak Case Study
News 1130, a Vancouver news radio station, needed to engage listeners across Metro Vancouver on the 2015 Transit Plebiscite and capture verified, geographically specific public opinion while avoiding the trolling and skewing that often plagues online polls. They partnered with PlaceSpeak and embedded its iFrame widget and consultation platform on their site to register responses, host discussions and authenticate participant locations.
PlaceSpeak provided location verification, geographically segmented reports and moderation features (iFrame widget, discussions, polls), which reduced gaming and delivered municipality-level insights for News 1130’s reporting. Between Feb–May 2015 the campaign recorded 5,500+ unique views, 905 connected participants and 965 comments, produced 13 poll-driven news stories, became the site’s “Most Read in Feb,” and yielded results comparable to Elections BC — demonstrating PlaceSpeak’s measurable impact on engagement and data quality.
