A PlaceSpeak Case Study

Preview of the City of Yellowknife Case Study

City of Yellowknife - Customer Case Study

The City of Yellowknife needed a framework to regulate short-term rentals (STRs) that balanced benefits with neighbourhood impacts after rapid growth of nightly rentals outside existing hotel and B&B rules. To reach a broad, verifiable cross-section of residents and stakeholders, the City used PlaceSpeak’s location-based public engagement platform for a second round of consultation.

PlaceSpeak hosted the engagement—sharing background documents, running a poll, a discussion forum and a survey with location validation—yielding 260 Connected Participants, 1,102 Unique Views, 96 Poll Responses and 231 Surveys Completed. The input gathered via PlaceSpeak, together with comparisons to other jurisdictions, will be used by the City of Yellowknife to refine its STR approach and draft amendments to the Business Licensing By-Law.
