Case Study: City of Nanaimo achieves an approved, community-informed Master Transportation Plan with PlaceSpeak

The City of Nanaimo sought to update its Master Transportation Plan to guide transportation decision-making for the next 25 years and invited public input on land use, walking, cycling, transit, major roads, neighbourhood transportation, parking and strategic connections. To collect this input the City used PlaceSpeak’s civic engagement platform during the consultation period (Oct–Dec 2012).

Using PlaceSpeak, the City ran a comprehensive survey, resource library and events postings to engage residents, attracting 2,330 unique views, 237 connected participants and 150 survey responses. Feedback gathered through PlaceSpeak informed the draft Master Transportation Plan, which was approved by Council in May 2014, demonstrating PlaceSpeak’s measurable impact on the planning process.
