City of Fort St. John - Customer Case Study

The City of Fort St. John needed to define objectives to protect and promote the community’s interests after B.C. Hydro’s proposed Site C clean energy project was planned within 7 km of the city. To gather community input for those objectives, the Council used PlaceSpeak’s online engagement platform for the “Let’s Talk Site C” consultation (July–September 2012).

Using PlaceSpeak’s tools—surveys, discussions, resources and an events calendar—the Council engaged the public and collected verifiable feedback: 125 connected participants, 3,084 unique views, 85 completed surveys, 17 comments and 8 poll participants. That input produced 11 community objectives, a Positions Paper presented to B.C. Hydro and the Joint Review Panel, and contributed to a 2016 Community Measures Agreement between B.C. Hydro and the City; PlaceSpeak enabled the measurable, organized consultation that made these outcomes possible.
