How MAG is Using Placekey with GIS Applications to Efficiently Track Building Inventory, Landmarks, and Employers

The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) faced a significant challenge with its regional employer database, which contained 90,000 points of data that were difficult to deduplicate and standardize. This process was extremely time-consuming, taking up to eight hours for a single project, and led to excessive use of server memory and man-hours, hindering their ability to perform analysis and provide accurate reports.

To resolve this, MAG adopted Placekey as a universal identifier for physical locations. The Placekey solution provided a unique, consistent key for each address, allowing MAG to seamlessly merge and clean data from multiple disparate sources. This eliminated duplication and resolved formatting inconsistencies that computers could not previously understand. The implementation by Placekey saved MAG substantial time and resources, streamlined their data preparation, and enabled efficient analysis for regional planning.
