Financial services company simplifies regulatory compliance with automated PII discovery and masking

Financial Services Company faced a growing regulatory challenge: terabytes of call recordings and other structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data flowed into an Amazon S3 data lake (12 PB and growing), potentially containing PII and subject to GDPR, PIPEDA, and CCPA. To inventory and remove sensitive elements at scale, the company selected PKWARE and its PK Protect solution to discover and govern PII across its AWS and hybrid environments.

PKWARE deployed PK Protect to scan and inventory data across Amazon S3, Redshift, EMR, Aurora and on-prem repositories, then mask, encrypt, or pseudonymize identified elements (including PII found in voice-to-text transcripts). The solution scanned 12 PB, was up and running within hours of the proof of concept, established compliance processes for GDPR/PIPEDA/CCPA, and now routinely returns “no results” for PII—demonstrating reduced exposure, faster remediation, and elimination of time‑consuming manual sifting.
