Global Medical Equipment and Services Company, a California-based maker of cloud-connected devices for pulmonary and respiratory care, was inundated with patient data containing PHI and PII — generating 1–1.5 GB every 10 minutes — and needed an automated, scalable way to find and mask sensitive information to meet HIPAA, GDPR and upcoming CCPA requirements. The customer required a migration to quarantined Amazon S3 buckets, the ability to scan up to 30 TB of existing data, and continuous micro-batch processing with tight latency (about five minutes) and controlled compute costs. PKWARE was chosen to provide data discovery and protection via its online SaaS offering on AWS Marketplace.

PKWARE implemented a rapid POC and full deployment with AWS, scanning and de-identifying the customer’s initial 30 TB in the first 30 days and then processing ongoing 1–1.5 GB Snappy Parquet micro-batches every 10 minutes into protected S3 buckets. PKWARE’s solution meets the customer’s sub‑5‑minute processing goal, retains referential integrity for analytics, and delivers compliance confidence (reported as 100% for PHI/PII handling), while reducing manual effort and keeping compute costs low.
