A PixelPlex Case Study
VRCHIVE, founded by Ka’i Kau, wanted to pioneer a new kind of social VR platform focused on 360-degree image sharing, since few platforms existed for storing and sharing VR photos and in-game screenshots. The company needed a way for users to capture, host, playback, and share immersive images across devices, plus a simple tool for Unity developers; PixelPlex was brought in to help build the product.
PixelPlex developed VRCHIVE’s website, native VR applications for major headsets, and the “Eyeshot” Unity plugin for capturing 360° panoramic screenshots. The solution enabled drag-and-drop uploads, WebVR browsing, social sharing, and support for stereo cubemaps and spheres, with GPU-optimized processing that avoided noticeable FPS drops. The project ran for 8 months and delivered a specialized platform for discovering and sharing VR content.
