Aira partnered with PixelPlex to tackle a major challenge in retinal disease diagnosis: the lack of a universal knowledge base and the difficulty novice ophthalmologists face when interpreting retinal images, especially in underserved regions. To address this, PixelPlex developed an AI retina analysis tool for medical image processing and internal testing, designed to help identify symptoms, classify diseases, and support more accurate diagnosis.

PixelPlex implemented AIRA, an AI-powered retina analyzer built on machine learning and U-Net-based segmentation models, using normalized and augmented fundus image data, masks, and medical datasets. The solution can detect and differentiate retinal symptoms, build a database of pathological cases, and improve diagnostic precision for physicians; while the case study does not cite exact numeric outcomes, it reports stronger segmentation performance, reduced prediction warping error, and more efficient retinal analysis.
