Case Study: Atlantic City Fire Department digitizes Bader Field with Pix4D

Vectorizing an airfield: data collection to valid results

The Atlantic City Fire Department, through the Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management, needed to fully digitize Bader Field in New Jersey so multiple city departments could use up-to-date site information for infrastructure maintenance, training, event planning, and construction tracking. The large, complex site also required detailed terrain data and vector outputs, so the team worked with Pix4D using PIX4Dcapture, PIX4Dcloud, and PIX4Dsurvey.

Pix4D helped the department collect 2,307 drone images over 170 acres in about 4 hours of flight time, then process them in 10 hours on PIX4Dcloud and 2 hours in PIX4Dsurvey to create an orthomosaic, dense point cloud, 3D mesh, and vectorized site plan. The results supported measurements of runways, roads, buildings, sewer lines, and flood-risk areas, and helped the city plan repairs and events more efficiently; the team also noted that the workflow was user-friendly and largely completed within one Pix4D product family.
