The Beirut explosion: drone mapping for recovery

Augment, a Luxembourg-based company with roots in Lebanon, needed a fast and safe way to assess the damage after the Beirut port explosion and support recovery efforts. They partnered with Pix4D and used Pix4Dcloud to turn drone imagery into an open-access map that could be shared with NGOs, authorities, and aid teams.

Pix4D helped Augment process data collected with an eBee X drone and S.O.D.A. 3D camera into dense point clouds, a 3D textured mesh, DSM, and orthomosaic. The project covered 2.88 km² across Beirut using 4,304 images from 6 flights, and the results were shared online for collaborative damage assessment, annotation, and recovery planning.
