Saving weeks of work: surveying a solar park in the UAE

FEDS, a drone services provider working across the Middle East, needed a faster and more reliable way to track construction progress on Noor Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest single-site solar power plant. With millions of panels spread across an 8 km² site and multiple contractors on-site, traditional surveying methods were too slow and inefficient. Pix4D’s PIX4Dmapper and PIX4Dcloud were used to capture high-resolution drone data and turn it into accurate site maps and progress updates.

Using an eBee with RTK, FEDS collected 105,000 images and produced 17 orthomosaics with up to 5 cm accuracy, allowing the team to monitor site progress and share georeferenced outputs with contractors. Pix4D’s cloud-based timeline feature helped stakeholders track changes over time, while in-house processing saved time and enabled work to continue on-site. According to FEDS, Pix4D’s user-friendly software and cloud support significantly improved workflow efficiency and reduced inspection effort in the harsh UAE climate.
