Case Study: Studio Labing S.R.L.S. enhances facade inspection and damage analysis with Pix4Dmapper

Studio Labing S.R.L.S., working on the restoration of the Palace of Justice in Messina, Italy, needed a precise, non-invasive way to inspect and document a damaged historic facade. The challenge was to capture the vertical surface accurately so the repair team could assess deterioration and plan restoration work.

Using Pix4Dmapper from Pix4D, Studio Labing surveyed the main facade with a DJI Inspire 1 drone and ground control points, then generated a high-resolution vertical orthomosaic and surface model with the orthoplane feature. The output achieved a 0.5 cm ground sampling distance across about 1,330 square meters, enabling damage to be classified into 16 categories and providing detailed CAD-ready data to support final repair decisions.
