Optimizing the ROI of fungicides with NDVI imagery

Deveron, a Canadian UAS company, needed a faster, more precise way to help growers fight white mold in soy and dry edible bean fields without overapplying expensive fungicides. Working with Pix4Dmapper and NDVI imagery, Deveron aimed to create variable-rate prescription maps that would improve ROI while fitting into its existing workflows.

Pix4D processed multispectral drone imagery from senseFly eBee aircraft with Parrot Sequoia sensors and delivered NDVI maps that Veritas used to build fungicide prescription maps. The full workflow from data capture to prescription delivery took 48 hours, and the resulting map covered about 50% of acres at the fungicide rate while leaving the rest untreated; early scouting showed no increase in disease incidence from reducing treated acres, with final ROI to be confirmed after harvest.
