Now you see it: 3D modeling a World Heritage Site

QuestUAV worked with the Cyprus University of Technology and the Cyprus Department of Antiquities to document the Kourion Archaeological Area in Cyprus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Their challenge was to create a highly detailed digital record of the site and make its history more accessible, including for visitors with visual impairments. Pix4Dmapper was used to process the aerial survey data.

Using QuestUAV’s Q-200 Surveyor drone, the team captured 331 high-resolution images over a 70-hectare area and used Pix4Dmapper to generate a virtual 3D model and georeferenced orthomosaic of the park. The results supported the creation of detailed archaeological site maps and 3D-printed exhibition models, including the amphitheater, which were displayed with Braille annotations at the visitor center, improving accessibility and public engagement with the site.
