Mapping an operating gas plant for localization

Abacus Datagraphics, an energy service provider in Canada, needed an up-to-date, high-resolution map of an operating gas plant to improve localization of facilities for plant operators. To do this, the company worked with Pix4D and used Pix4Dmapper to create a detailed orthomosaic of the site for underground infrastructure mapping.

Pix4D enabled Abacus Datagraphics to capture 326 aerial images over an 80-acre plant area with a fixed-wing senseFly eBee UAV and process them into a georeferenced orthomosaic. The result was a high-resolution map that significantly improved the visualization of buried facilities, replacing outdated, lower-resolution aerial or satellite imagery and enhancing the usefulness of the underground map.
