Mapping 100ha+ rice paddies with PIX4Dfields

Fukuokakyushu-KUBOTA, working with NARO, needed a faster way to remotely sense and analyze large rice-growing areas as Japan’s farming population declines and field sizes increase. They partnered with Pix4D and used PIX4Dfields to support drone-based precision agriculture and on-the-spot crop scouting.

Pix4D’s PIX4Dfields enabled the team to process drone imagery from 110 hectares of rice paddies in about 1 hour and 40 minutes, generating orthomosaics and vegetation index maps directly in the field without internet access. The faster processing, lower PC load, and improved radiometry and GSD control helped Fukuokakyushu-KUBOTA and NARO visualize crop conditions quickly and accurately for better yield management.
