Making events safer with drone mapping

Michigan State Police needed a fast, accurate way to plan security for the annual Michigan Mud Jam, a 4-day event whose expected attendance far exceeds the local population. They worked with Pix4D and used Pix4Dmapper to turn drone-captured imagery into an up-to-date orthomosaic that could serve as a shared base map for multi-agency event planning.

Pix4D helped the Michigan State Police map the 1 km² fairgrounds with two drone flights, capturing 405 images at 120 m altitude and processing them in less than two and a half hours. The result was a 3.2 cm-per-pixel orthomosaic used to annotate zones, identify risks, and support a common operational picture; MSP noted it can produce orthomosaic products within a 24-hour turnaround using Pix4Dmapper.
