Leveraging 3D modeling and printing skills as a service

Unautregard, a French cultural heritage and real estate organization, wanted to expand its services by showcasing what could be achieved by combining aerial photography, photogrammetry-based 3D modeling, and 3D printing. To do this, it selected iconic buildings on the island that were visually striking and suitable for aerial capture and 3D printing, using Pix4Dmapper as the core software.

Pix4D helped Unautregard and its partners turn drone imagery into detailed 3D models and printable meshes through a workflow of image capture, Pix4D processing, and 3D printing. The project covered the Abbey of Chatelier and the church of Ars-en-Ré, producing models from 851 and 1,222 images respectively, with GSD as fine as 0.7 cm; the resulting meshes were described as highly realistic and detailed, and the finished 3D prints served as a compelling sales and demonstration tool for future customers.
