A Pix4D Case Study
Mosini Caviezel SA, a Swiss engineering and geomatic consulting firm, needed a low-cost, sustainable way to create accurate indoor floor plans and evaluate photogrammetry for property-by-floor documentation. To tackle the challenge of mapping small rooms, narrow spaces, and flat indoor surfaces, they tested indoor mapping workflows using Pix4D’s photogrammetry software, Pix4Dmapper, to see which image-capture method would work best.
Using Pix4Dmapper, Mosini Caviezel SA compared several camera positions and angles, ultimately finding that moving parallel to the walls and shooting at 90 degrees produced the best matches and most well-distributed results. The workflow delivered precise 2D indoor plans with sub-centimeter ground sampling distance and small area differences versus total station measurements (e.g., 0.129 m², 0.094 m², and 0.336 m² across three rooms), showing that Pix4D enabled an efficient, accurate, and practical indoor mapping process.
