A Pix4D Case Study
University of Twente’s Faculty ITC needed a faster, more accurate way to map customary land parcels in Namibia so land rights could be secured with reliable 2D boundary footprints. Traditional aerial imagery and handheld GPS were too slow, physically demanding, and lacked the resolution needed for cadastral mapping, so the team turned to Pix4Dmapper for UAV-based aerial photogrammetry.
Using a Bateleur fixed-wing UAV with a Sony NEX 5 camera, University of Twente captured 330 images over 160 hectares in Gobabis, Namibia and processed them in Pix4Dmapper to generate a high-resolution orthomosaic and cadastral map. The result was a fast, relatively low-cost workflow for digitizing parcels on-screen, producing maps with less than 5 cm resolution—significantly better than the previous methods used in Namibia.
