Sundance Media Group (SMG) worked with Pix4D to investigate an isolated helicopter crash near Pioche, Nevada. The site was remote, difficult to access, and the debris field was spread across rugged terrain, making it hard for investigators to determine the cause of the accident using conventional methods.

Using drones and PIX4Dmapper, SMG captured more than 6,000 images over 70 acres and processed them into a dense 3D point cloud. Pix4D’s workflow enabled investigators to zoom in on fine details, filter debris by color, and analyze the crash scene with high accuracy, ultimately providing a highly detailed map that improved the investigation and supported insurance and safety follow-up.
