A Pix4D Case Study
AeroScan, a Dutch reality capture services provider, needed to document and measure the world’s largest crochet blanket for Art Week in Tietjerk. The challenge was to capture a huge, flat, highly detailed surface accurately enough for individual stitches to be recognizable and for the project to be measurable for Guinness World Records. Vendor Pix4D and its Pix4Dmapper photogrammetry software were used for the job.
Pix4D helped AeroScan fly two drone missions with a Falcon 8+ and Sony A7R camera, capturing 550 high-resolution images with 80% overlap and processing them into a precise orthomosaic and map. The result was a millimeter-accurate dataset with a 7 mm GSD, delivered in just two days, allowing the team to identify individual stitches and provide measurements to support the Guinness World Records assessment.
