A Pivotal Tracker Case Study
Guild Education, a Denver-based company that helps employers offer "education as a benefit," was growing rapidly across engineering and Salesforce teams and struggling to scale its development process. Using Trello early on left work items getting lost, made sprint burndowns and acceptance rates invisible, and forced manual counting of story points — undermining the team’s ability to plan and demonstrate delivery as they expanded. To address this, Guild evaluated tools and adopted Pivotal Tracker.
By moving to Pivotal Tracker and embracing an Agile sprint/pointing model, Guild standardized workflows, gained visual status tracking and burndown visibility, and integrated code references for easier traceability. The change removed manual point-counting, clarified acceptance bottlenecks, and improved planning and tradeoff decisions — the team’s velocity “increased tremendously,” enabling a small technical group to scale (from about two technical staff to roughly ten) and deliver a significant amount of work in six months. Pivotal Tracker gave leadership measurable velocity reports and much greater transparency into progress.
