Case Study: GoSpotCheck by FORM achieves rapid MVP launch and stable native web & mobile apps with Pivotal

A Pivotal Case Study

Preview of the GoSpotCheck by FORM Case Study

The GoSpotCheck phone app makes it easy for retail field teams to report data collected on site in a highly visual, easily consumable way

GoSpotCheck is a Denver-based startup that provides a simple, visual app for collecting, structuring and analyzing retail field data to replace spreadsheets and ad-hoc reporting. Facing scaling limits and hiring challenges on their previous platform, the company decided to migrate to Ruby on Rails to improve performance, stability and make it easier to recruit developers.

Pivotal Labs helped steer the Ruby transition, evaluated hires, built the web app (hitting an MVP well ahead of a three‑month target) and rebuilt the mobile clients—creating Android from scratch and rewriting iOS to replace poorly performing PhoneGap versions. The three apps launched in April–May 2013 on schedule; GoSpotCheck reported stable, reliable code, greater confidence in functionality, and a commitment to agile pairing practices across their development organization.
