Skills Matter is a London-based community platform that supports 50,000 software professionals with conferences, meetups, courses and online resources. After receiving venture funding they needed to modernize a Rails web presence, accelerate delivery and scale engineering capabilities on a tight three-month timeline while balancing many stakeholder requirements and a long prioritized feature list (search, social profiles, event sign-up, hosted media, courses and commerce).

Pivotal Labs co-sourced the project, pairing teams and using test-driven development and agile practices to deliver a flexible Rails site with rich search, social and event features. The relaunch increased membership and engagement, improved traffic and bounce metrics, and left Skills Matter with a stronger engineering capability and a platform ready to evolve with new features and APIs.
