A Pivotal Case Study

New Website and Digital Platform Leverage Pivotal Web Services and Cloud Foundry to Enable Incredible Storytelling

Sundance Institute, the nonprofit founded by Robert Redford that runs the Sundance Film Festival and year‑round artist programs, faced a dated digital presence: hard-to-navigate pages, siloed back‑end data that prevented personalized experiences, poor discovery of content and events, and an inability to scale or adopt new digital technologies during festival traffic spikes.

Pivotal Labs used Agile design and development to build a responsive front end and deployed it on Pivotal Web Services/Cloud Foundry, conducting user research to simplify navigation and prioritize key flows. The redesign reduced top‑level navigation, improved content discovery, streamlined ticketing and program submissions, increased web sales and engagement, and delivered elastic cloud scaling for peak festival demand while providing a foundation for future data integration and features.
