Delivering high performance with a cost-effective model

The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) needed timely, flexible labor‑market statistics for a diverse community of roughly 900 users across federal offices, 120 regional employment offices and unemployment insurance funds. Its legacy data‑warehouse could not keep up with increasingly complex BI calculations: performance degraded, network data transfers became a bottleneck, and fixes would have required substantial time and cost.

SECO replaced the legacy system with Pivotal Greenplum Database, an MPP platform that delivered much faster query performance, better scalability and hardware flexibility at lower total cost of ownership. The change cut routine tasks dramatically (database copies dropped from two weeks to about 20 minutes), sped up complex analyses for users, and positioned SECO to handle growing Big Data demands.
