Case Commons Person and family-centric technology that puts the “social” in social services

Case Commons is a New York–based nonprofit that builds person- and family-centric technology for government social services. Frustrated by linear, client-server legacy systems that were cumbersome and drove caseworkers back to paper, they wanted an intuitive, social-network–inspired case management system to better track and serve vulnerable children and families.

Pivotal Labs partnered with Case Commons to design and build Casebook, a web-based, relationship-focused replacement that surfaces connections, tracks people over time, and makes data visually actionable. Using continuous pair-programming and automated testing, the team delivered the system in under two years at a fraction of typical legacy costs, increasing usability and adoption so caseworkers could spend more time helping families.
