Sprawling Multi-Campus School District Turns to Pivot3 for State-of-the-Art Safe Campus Solution

Chico Unified School District, a sprawling public system in Chico, California with 18 campuses and over 12,000 students, faced a surveillance infrastructure at breaking point. The aging SAN ran out of space, cameras and recording servers were scattered across hundreds of square miles, frames and critical data were being lost, and the small IT team was burdened by high operational costs and complex maintenance.

CUSD deployed the Pivot3 Safe Campus hyperconverged solution (1 PB usable) to consolidate storage, servers and applications into a single VMware-based platform. The project centralized management, eliminated distributed recorders, and delivered reliable, scalable performance (no dropped frames or data loss via patented erasure coding), simplified operations for non‑technical staff, and reduced total cost of ownership while allowing easy expansion by adding appliances.
