Leading University Ensures Campus Safety with Pivot3 Hyperconverged Infrastructure

The University of Central Florida (UCF), one of the nation's largest research universities, faced critical gaps in campus safety after a 2013 active-shooter incident exposed fragmented, siloed surveillance, access control and intrusion systems. First responders lacked remote access to camera feeds, IT operated dozens of standalone servers and DVRs across departments, and permissions and expertise issues prevented centralized, timely situational awareness.

UCF deployed Pivot3 hyperconverged infrastructure to host Milestone VMS and consolidate servers, storage and client access into a single, resilient platform. The solution delivered rapid, device-agnostic access to video, up to 3 PB of scalable storage, reduced operational complexity and cost, and ensured data resiliency for forensics — supporting UCF’s growing camera estate and future security initiatives like license-plate recognition and a centralized security operations center.
