Large School District Secures Over 50 Campuses and 70 Facilities Using Pivot3 Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Richardson Independent School District (RISD) is a large Texas district with 54 campuses, about 38,700 students and 70 facilities. Faced with an aging analog surveillance system that became a complex hybrid as it migrated to IP, RISD was managing 66 separate servers and needed a more resilient, easy-to-manage, and cost-effective video storage solution to ensure mission-critical footage remained available for investigations and safety.

RISD deployed Pivot3’s hyperconverged infrastructure to consolidate compute and storage onto standard servers, creating a unified, highly resilient pool that simplified management, reduced rack space and lowered total cost of ownership. The district now retains video for a minimum of 30 days, has seen vandalism drop dramatically (after adding four cameras they now average about one broken window per year), and has a scalable platform for future analytics like face detection and automated search.
