ZaloPay Using a Scale-Out MySQL Alternative to Serve Millions of Users

VNG Corporation’s ZaloPay, Vietnam’s leading mobile payment app, needed a database that could keep up with rapid growth, millions of users, and nonstop transactional demand. The team faced the challenge of supporting high-volume payments, billing, customer data, and real-time analytics while maintaining scalability, resiliency, high availability, and security.

To address this, VNG Corporation chose PingCAP’s TiDB as the core database for ZaloPay’s merchant platform and other services. TiDB’s MySQL compatibility, scale-out architecture, and HTAP capabilities let the team run transactional workloads and analytics on the same system, with more than 20 production nodes deployed on-premise. The result was a cloud-native, open-source database stack that helped ZaloPay support large-scale growth and faster business decisions, while also receiving strong support from the PingCAP community and engineering team.
