Case Study: PalFish achieves scalable ACID performance with PingCAP TiDB

A PingCAP Case Study

Preview of the PalFish Case Study

Why We Chose TiDB over MongoDB and MySQL

PalFish, an EdTech online English learning platform, needed a database that could keep up with rapid growth, rising data volumes, and increasingly strict requirements for ACID transactions and data constraints. Its MongoDB 2.x/3.x setup had no built-in transactions or schema enforcement, which made it difficult to support its expanding online class and trading workloads.

PalFish chose PingCAP’s TiDB, a MySQL-compatible distributed SQL/NewSQL database, to replace MongoDB for its big tables and core transactional systems. The migration enabled horizontal scaling, strong consistency, and high availability, while supporting more than 4.3 TB of data, over 2 million paid users, 10 TiDB clusters, and core clusters handling 10,000+ TPS each, with 99.9th percentile latency as low as 16–30 ms.
