A PingCAP Case Study
U-Next, a major video streaming platform in Japan, faced challenges with their previous MySQL infrastructure, which was difficult to scale and suffered from high latency under heavy server concurrency. Seeking a database with horizontal scalability, high availability, and low migration costs, they chose to implement TiDB from vendor PingCAP.
PingCAP's TiDB, a distributed SQL database, provided a MySQL-compatible solution that ran on U-Next's existing ARM architecture. After benchmarking showed minimal performance differences between ARM and x86, they successfully migrated. The results were significant, reducing slow requests during peak hours from 6,000 to fewer than 600—a tenfold improvement—even when deployed across data centers.
