PalFish supports over 2 million paid users with TiDB

PalFish, a fast-growing online education platform with over 40 million users, faced a severe challenge as its business rapidly expanded. Their MongoDB database could not support transactions, lacked data constraints, and struggled with the surge of data, which blocked business growth. To solve these problems, they sought a new database solution and turned to the vendor PingCAP.

PingCAP implemented its TiDB database, an open-source, distributed SQL database. The solution provided high availability, ACID transactions, and horizontal scalability without application intrusion. As a result, TiDB successfully supported PalFish's core applications, including its online class data storage and trading system, even as paid users quadrupled to over 2 million. The migration led to greater efficiency for their R&D and DBA teams, with their 99.9th percentile latency remaining as low as 16~30 ms.
