NetEase Games handles 3.6 billion daily requests with PingCAP TiDB

NetEase Games, a leading online gaming company, faced significant database challenges due to its rapidly growing billing system. The standalone MySQL architecture could not handle the scale, processing over 3.6 billion daily requests and writing dozens of gigabytes of data, leading to severe bottlenecks in performance, scalability, and data isolation. To resolve these issues, they sought a new solution and evaluated PingCAP's TiDB, an open-source distributed HTAP database, against other options.

PingCAP's TiDB provided a MySQL-compatible distributed database that enabled horizontal scalability, removing the need for data sharding and purging. The solution allowed NetEase Games to consolidate data from over 280 game clients into a single database pool, breaking down data silos. The results included a production cluster storing 20 TB of data, handling a peak of 10k queries per second, and maintaining low latency with 80% of requests under 8 ms, ultimately enabling big data analytics and creating value from their data.
