Huya Live speeds queries 6x with PingCAP

Huya Live, a major live streaming platform in China with over 178 million monthly active users, faced significant database challenges as its business grew. Using MySQL as its main database, the company struggled with storage capacity bottlenecks, high latency during live broadcasts, and costly maintenance. After attempting solutions like sharding, which introduced application intrusion and high refactoring costs, Huya turned to the vendor PingCAP for a new solution.

PingCAP implemented its TiDB database, an open-source, distributed SQL database that is highly compatible with MySQL. The solution provided horizontal scalability, high availability, and strong consistency. As a result, Huya achieved a 6x improvement in query speed for its big data offline application and a more than 2x performance increase for its near real-time OLAP application. The migration to TiDB also reduced storage costs and simplified the overall infrastructure.
