A PingCAP Case Study
Yuanfudao.com, an online tutoring service for K-12 students in China, needed a backend that could keep up with rapid data growth, heavy concurrency, and complex query and BI requirements across large volumes of question bank, audio/video, and user data. PingCAP’s TiDB was evaluated as a replacement for traditional MySQL sharding because Yuanfudao.com needed scalable storage, transparent distributed transactions, real-time analysis, and high availability without adding operational complexity.
PingCAP implemented TiDB, a distributed HTAP database with horizontal scalability and automatic failover, using a 2 TiDB + 3 TiKV + 3 PD architecture for production. The solution let Yuanfudao.com scale storage and processing independently, support complex queries more easily, and avoid the limitations of manual sharding and DDL locking. PingCAP reported support for about 5 million rows of data growth per day and peak QPS of around 1000, while reducing maintenance burden and improving R&D productivity.
