A PingCAP Case Study
Bank of China, one of China’s largest state-owned commercial banks, needed a more scalable backend for its Zabbix monitoring environment as its IT data grew to the TB level. The bank was using MySQL for Zabbix storage, but it became a bottleneck for large-scale monitoring, forcing tradeoffs between the number of hosts monitored and data retention.
PingCAP helped Bank of China replace MySQL with TiDB, a MySQL-compatible distributed SQL database, as the backend for what the bank calls “TiZabbix.” With PingCAP’s TiDB, Bank of China scaled to monitoring more than 10,000 hosts, storing 18 TB of monitoring data, and updating about 1.45 billion monitoring items per day. The solution improved query capacity, supported longer history retention, and separated alerting from large-scale data storage to maintain stability.
