University of Hull Replaces Legacy Systems to Deliver Superior Experience

The University of Hull, a research and teaching institution of over 18,000 students across multiple campuses, set out to replace legacy ICT systems to deliver a better global student learning experience. The university needed to balance strong protection of sensitive data with user-friendly access for diverse users and BYOD devices, requiring a single federated solution that offered SSO, MFA and support for cloud services such as Office 365.

IDM specialist ProofID implemented a managed service based on PingFederate and PingID, replacing Shibboleth and extending SSO to applications like Box, Canvas and Office 365 while deploying MFA (including for VPN access). The new platform streamlined access, improved partner integrations, reduced costs and administrative overhead, and strengthened security and compliance, resulting in higher student satisfaction and greater operational efficiency.
