Case Study: Open Banking achieves rapid, secure Open Banking Directory rollout with Ping Identity

A Ping Identity Case Study

Open Banking sets the standard for secure directory

Open Banking (the Open Banking Implementation Entity) is a UK non‑profit set up to create API, data and security standards that promote innovation and competition in retail banking. Faced with the need for a trusted whitelist and directory, Open Banking had to provide real‑time verification of registered entities, a searchable identity directory of third parties, and dynamic client registration to automate onboarding so banks could reliably identify and work with regulated third parties.

Rather than build the stack in‑house, Open Banking adopted Ping Identity for its CIAM and trust framework, using a central Ping repository for enrollment and verification and leveraging standards‑based APIs that support PSD2 and SCA. The result: the Open Banking Directory was delivered on time, rapidly onboarded participants (22 ASPSPs and 28 TPPs by July 2018), de‑risked delivery, and enabled secure, streamlined interactions across the industry.
