Netflix Streams Secure, Seamless Sign-On for Employees and Partners

Netflix, the global streaming service, faced a shift from perimeter security to a zero‑trust model and needed a cloud identity solution deployable in AWS with a 99.9% SLA. The IAM team was overwhelmed by daily requests, fragmented custom identity stores and adapters across applications, and required a standards-driven partner to centralize and modernize access for employees and partners.

Netflix implemented PingFederate as a single sign‑on and extensible identity framework, using SDKs and APIs to build custom adapters, self‑service flows and integrations. Adaptive authentication (device posture, geolocation, application context and access history) with step‑up controls now enforces appropriate assurance levels. The result is a seamless, UI‑driven sign‑on that balances UX and security, reduces routine identity work, cuts operational burden, boosts engineering productivity and future‑proofs Netflix’s identity program.
