DB Regio AG, Deutsche Bahn’s local-transport arm and a market leader in Germany’s regional rail and bus services, sought to boost Regio ticket sales by positioning the railway as the ideal way to discover leisure destinations across Bavaria. The challenge was to create engaging travel incentives that convert interest into ticket bookings and make rail travel the default choice for day trips.
Working with BASILICOM on Pimcore’s digital experience platform, DB Regio launched the Let’s Explore Bavaria content-as-a-service platform: a structured database of 370+ excursion destinations, 170 article pages and details for over 1,000 stations, plus an editorial layer driven by search-behavior analysis and mapped customer journeys. Accessible via organic search, ads and social channels, the site delivers strong engagement — 2 pages per visit, a 45% lower bounce rate and +4 minutes average time on page — and has become a key channel for leisure travel planning in Bavaria.
