Woolworths, the multinational retail company operating in Africa and Australia, needed a faster and more accurate way to discover and protect sensitive data for compliance needs such as PCI DSS and the POPI Act. Their existing DLP software was slow, clunky, inaccurate, and unable to effectively scan both structured and unstructured data, so they ran an RFP to find a better data discovery tool. PII Tools was selected as the vendor, with a focus on accurate PII discovery.

PII Tools delivered a modern AI-powered data discovery solution that could process large databases quickly and reliably, including SQL Server and Oracle environments. The results were significant: scanning speed increased by over 30x, one 1 TB database was scanned in less than a day, and Woolworths saved 168 man-hours in a single year compared with the previous solution. Woolworths is now exploring PII Tools’ REST API for automation and aims to scan over 60 TB of structured Oracle data in under 90 days.
